About Guiding Good Choices

The Guiding Good Choices curriculum has been implemented in more than 30 states and Canada, benefitting more than 120,000 families. The program teaches parents with children aged 9-14 useful skills in preventing substance abuse and other problem-causing behaviors. Guiding Good Choices consists of five, two-hour workshops and includes specific instructions on:
  • Identifying risk factors for adolescent substance abuse
  • Developing effective parenting practices, particularly regarding substance use issues
  • Family conflict management
  • Use of family meetings as a method of improving family management and positive child involvement
