Meridian is currently hosting a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) Drive to increase the number of individuals in our community to respond when someone experiences a mental health crisis. Throughout the months of March and April, Meridian’s Advancement Department is actively looking for individual and corporate donors to sponsor 15 MHFA courses. The sponsored courses will take place in the month of May for Mental Health Month and the courses will be free for community members. Mental Health First Aid is an 8-hour course where participants earn their Mental Health First Aider certification from the National Council for Behavioral Health. MHFA trains individuals to recognize risk factors and warning signs of mental health and addiction issues, helping to minimize the impact on employees in the workplace, and help family members, caretakers, and community members identify potential mental health issues by taking action before it is too late. For an individual to complete the course it is $40 and for a group of up to 25 members, it costs $500, making it reasonable for individuals and businesses to receive this life-saving certification.
