Crisis Stabilization Unit
Meridian operates two CSU's located in Alachua County (Gainesville) and Columbia County (Lake City).
Each CSU provides short-term in-patient treatment to adults & children with a serious, acute psychiatric illness. Examples include suicidal thoughts/feelings, violent behavior, persons who are court ordered for evaluation, or other severe psychiatric disturbances that cannot be addressed on an outpatient basis. The CSU serves as an alternative to long-term inpatient hospitalization by providing brief, intensive stabilization services within the geographic area of the person's home, enabling involvement of the individual's available support system.
Persons served receive psychiatric/nursing assessments and treatment and family, group, individual or recreation therapy services, as needed. Discharge planning and aftercare referral to outpatient services are also provided.
Persons may refer themselves or be referred by family members, the judicial system, law enforcement, local medical hospitals and practitioners, significant others, Meridian programs, or other community and social service agencies.
