Accessing Services
Inpatient Services
Detoxification Unit, Adult Inpatient
Meridian's Detoxification Unit ("Detox"), located in Alachua County (Gainesville) provides medical and non-medical (non-narcotics) detoxification services with full supervision by physician and nursing staff. Individuals admitted are screened for health problems and risk factors associated with addiction including, tuberculosis and HIV. Additional assessments and HIV education and treatment are provided as needed.
Medical and supportive counseling help clients withdraw from the physiological effects of mood altering substances. The 5-day acute intoxication and withdrawal management program includes educational and motivational group therapy for treatment and maintenance of a substance-free lifestyle. Aftercare and family planning treatment services are available. A medication clinic and counseling services help individuals transition to residential treatment programs. Continued treatment, employment, housing and referrals to support groups and other programs and agencies are addressed as indicated. The program very often has a waitlist. Admissions are made on an availability / severity basis.
